The women taking on old Hollywood

Most entertaining projects, particularly comic book films, have the same issue. It’s always men saving the day. Too much testosterone, not enough women.
But if one thing inspires studios, its films that make money. And DC Comics’ put some faith in Wonder Woman. The age of MeToo, however has changed things. We know that Wonder Woman 2 is being made with the same team.
But what about the rest?
Well, Sony Pictures, according to an exclusive in Deadline, is gearing up for a Spider-Women film. Noted Deadline: “The studio is working on an animated Spider-Women film that will focus on three generations of women with Spidey powers. Bek Smith will write the script.”
Marvel Studios has Captain Marvel coming with Brie Larson in the titular role and a Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson in Avengers franchise) film potentially coming out in 2020.

Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, introduced in Suicide Squad, is now starring and producing an all-girl gang film. Noted Screen Rant: “One such project is the Birds of Prey female team-up movie. Robbie serves as a producer on the movie in addition to being expected to star in it, and she teased that Birds of Prey is an ‘R-rated girl gang film’. Birds of Prey will be directed by Cathy Yan, the first Asian American to direct a superhero movie and one of the few women chosen to direct a comic book adaptation, from a script by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee).”
Then there’s Batgirl but since Joss Whedon walked out of the film, stating he has no story, the studio is looking for a writer/director.
Marvel, meanwhile, is looking at its many comic characters to create female-led superhero films.
